Marianna Smbatian
Location: Zaporizhzhia, Ukraine
Professional Status: Artist, Member of the National Union of Artists of Ukraine, Theater Director, and Community Activist
Based in the frontline city of Zaporizhzhia, Marianna Smbatian channels resilience and passion into a dynamic creative career. Living with a Category I disability has never deterred her from leading a deeply active and impactful life. As a multidisciplinary artist, theater director, and activist, Marianna uses the arts as a vehicle for social change, community building, and wartime solidarity. Outside of her studio work, she writes and directs original, socially conscious theatrical productions, teaches painting, and is a dedicated supporter of the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
Marianna’s artistic practice is defined by versatility and a restless curiosity. Seamlessly blending elements of Impressionism and Realism, she consistently pushes the boundaries of mixed media.
Traditional Mediums: Watercolor, acrylic, gouache, pastel, ink, and liners on both paper and canvas.
Digital Art: Contemporary digital illustration and graphic design.
Decorative Arts: Hand-painted artisan boxes crafted from natural wood.
Marianna actively contributes to Ukraine's defense and humanitarian efforts. A portion of the proceeds from her latest venture—exquisitely hand-painted wooden boxes—is donated directly to support Ukrainian soldiers on the front lines.
